Introductions then continued around the room.

Treasurer’s Report

Treasurer Valerie Deitch reported on expenditures for grade-level and sports parties and staff appreciation. Homecoming expenses were over budget by $200, because of unexpected weather-related expenses. We received $30 from Bashas shoppers who participated in their program.

Committee Reports

Staff Appreciation – Monika Gloesslein reported that the Staff Farmer’s Market will take place the following Friday. A DoodlePoll will be going out again, for those wishing to sign up to bring “farmstand” types of products – pies, fruit, vegetables, honey, bread, etc – to enable the faculty and staff to “shop,” free of charge before the Thanksgiving holiday. If you are able to donate and need to make special arrangements for drop-off, please contact Monika.

Fine Arts – Andrea reminded all in attendance about the upper school show, The Curious Savage, this coming Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 PM, with an art show in the lobby starting at 6:00 PM. A bake sale will take place during intermission.

Shop and Give – Andrea distributed flyers, reminding folks to remember The Gregory School during holiday shopping. Mightynest.com (natural cleaning, baby/toddler and household products)will be donating 15% of every purchase to TGS and shopping through AmazonSmile funnels 0.5% of all purchases to our school. Please be sure to sign in appropriately at each site.

Grad Night – Andrea announced that there will be a meeting of senior parents to plan Grad Night in the near future. More to come next month.

Parent Reps – Seventh Grade Representative Patty Nolen told us about their successful staff appreciation event, consisting of a delicious lunch brought in from Saffron Restaurant to a beautifully decorated teachers’ lounge. Amie Bergensen said that the teachers really loved it. Saffron discounted the cost of the food and parents showed overwhelming support to cover the remainder.  Also in the middle school, eighth grade reps will be hosting a parent gathering during the middle school dance in February.  Twelfth grade reps are planning a potluck.

Development Report

Becky Rebenstorf reported that new parent meetings have been completed. Alumni Reunion Day invitations are out with an itinerary that includes attending a basketball game, a barbecue lunch and an evening gathering at North in La Encantada. The Fall Family Gathering will take place on Tuesday, November 25, with an 8:30 AM reception, performances at 9:00 and tours starting at 9:30. Please RSVP so that refreshments can be planned for accordingly. Suzan Costich spoke about the dollar-for-dollar Arizona Independent Schools Scholarship Foundation (AISSF) Tax Credit. She explained that individuals and couples can designate The Gregory School for this credit, which comes directly off of AZ state tax liability. This helps to provide financial aid for students needing some extra assistance to stay at our school. Suzan pointed out that every dollar donated today is refunded at tax time, so everyone can and should participate! Please speak with friends and family who may be willing to help us support our Gregory School families!

Board Report

Per Andrea, the Gregory School Board of Directors is working diligently and has a number of things going on at the committee level. More to come regarding that next month.

Head of School Report

Dr. Sherrill reiterated Becky’s comments about the “new family meetings,” explaining that they were asked about their experiences, if their kids were happy, etc. They reported that they felt a sense of community, relationships with teachers and, unlike what they generally found in larger school settings, it felt warm and welcoming here at TGS. They were pleased with the ability to customize academic programs as well as with the diversity of athletics, clubs and arts. There are 75 new families at The Gregory School this year, including the 16 new fifth graders.

New Business

Andrea reported that the O’Brien Staff Lounge remodel is moving forward and that the board has voted in favor of dedicating it in her name. We are still looking for donations. Please contact Andrea if you are interested in helping.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 AM for Brian Lorimer to speak about the Leadership Development Programs currently underway, in both the middle and upper schools.
