December 6, 2011 General Membership Meeting Minutes

In attendance:  Kathy Ross, Amy Jobst, Sandra Brody, Stanley Kissinger, Cathy Chavez, Heather Hiscox, Gabrielle Gonzales, Malissa Thum, Paula Babis, Susan McGinnis, Tamir & Naomi Weiner, Saad Farouqi, Sandra Maltry, Holly Kemmerly Small, Jonathan Martin, Liz Groskind, Susan Costich, Linda Neifeh, Tara Krupp.

Kathy Ross called the meeting to order @ 8:04 a.m.

Introductions were made.

The FA meeting minutes were approved from the November 8, 2011 meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Nancy Strong, Treasurer, was absent and Kathy Ross gave the Treasurer’s report. The budget is going well year with no over spending so far this year.  The budget will be re-assessed in January for any necessary updates.  Please submit receipts for re-imbursement in a timely manner.

Athletic Boosters: Everything is going very well with the organization and Laurie Kassman was recognized for doing a great job running the Hawk’s Nest.  However, they still need more volunteers to help with staffing of the Hawk’s Nest.  Please contact her to volunteer.

Development: Susan Costich explained about the AZ Tax Credit and how it benefits St. Gregory’s. AZ Tax payer can participate in the tax credit program.

The Annual Fund Appeal is another way you can support St. Gregory and this year the school is encouraging parent participation.  A gift of any size is welcomed. Jonathan Martin reported that more faculty than St. Gregory families have donated to the Annual Fund in the past.  They are hoping those statistics will change in the upcoming year with more STG family participation.

“The Sip” is scheduled for March 3 @ Skyline Country Club.  They are hoping to have more than 300 people attend.  Donation forms were made available for the Silent Auction.  They are still looking for sponsorships, so please submit any suggestions as possible sponsors.  The theme is going to be “Wines of the World.”  It will be a sit down dinner with tables seating 10 people.  An invitation will be sent out to all St. Gregory families prior to the event.

Staff Appreciation: Amy Jobst reported that a Staff Appreciation luncheon / Fall Harvest was held for all the STG staff on Nov. 16.  Reusable St. Gregory grocery bags were filled with a variety of Thanksgiving goodies.  The staff seemed to enjoy the event and were very appreciative of the gifts.  Several thank you notes were received. The Holiday staff luncheon will be held on December 20 and will be catered by Create Café.

Spirit Sale: Merchandise from last month’s sale will be arriving this Friday.

Class Reps: The Upper School Winter Formal is going to be Sunday, January 15 at the Savoy Theater.  Invitations for the event will be going out this week and $25 tickets will be on sale soon.  The 10th grade parents plan this event annually.

Fine Arts: The Winter Fine Arts Festival will be this Thursday, December 8, and there will be a variety of fun activities.  The event will begin @ 6 p.m., with admission being $5, and the St. Gregory band & choir commencing @ 7 p.m.  Baked goods will be available for sale. The Middle School Science Fair will also be held the same day, 12/8 , from 4:30 – 6 p.m.  Please contact Andrea Mainman for more information.

Grad Night: Stan Kissinger reported information regarding the upcoming fundraiser this weekend at the Fourth Avenue Street Fair.  Benjamin Supply (parent & owner Mark Berman) has graciously offered to donate proceeds from their parking lot for those wishing to park in their business lot.  Volunteers are needed to help Sat & Sun from 10 – 4.  All proceeds will benefit Grad Night.

Board of Trustees: No report.

Old Business: (Shop & Save) There was a reminder to please link your Target red cards and Safeway savings card to St. Gregory’s to help benefit the school.  For more information on this contact Cathy Chavez.

New Business: No new business.

The next FA meeting will be Tuesday, January 10, 2012 @ 7 p.m.   The guest speaker will be Jonathan Martin discussing the benefits of an independent school education.
