November 8, 2011 General Membership Meeting Minutes

In attendance: Kathy Ross, Nancy Strong, Amy Jobst, Nancy Goodman, Sandra Maltry, Laurie Kassman, Stan Kissinger, Cathy Chavez, Paula Babis, Gabrielle Gonzales, Andrea Mainman, Suzan Costich, Heather Hiscox, Tara Krupp, Vicky Keifer, Rick Belding, Maria Grainger, Linda Naifeh, Netzin Steklis, Pat Granger, Malika Johnson, Susan Heintz, Bob Kowalewski, Joe Tunzi, Rachel Villarreal.

Kathy Ross called the meeting to order @ 8:07 a.m.

The minutes were approved from the October 4, 2011 FA meeting.

Treasurer’s report: Nancy Strong stated there had not been a lot of changes to the existing budget; however, the final figures from Homecoming were still not in.

Homecoming report: Gabrielle Gonzales reported that Homecoming expenses consisted of $430 that was funded by the FA.  However, she is hoping that eventually in the future, Homecoming will be self-sustaining.

Athletic: Gabrielle Gonzales reported that there are revisions being made to St. Gregory team celebrations in order to try something new. The FA is trying to figure out the best way to spend the allocated FA funds for each team collectively.  There has been talk of possible end-of-year awards ceremony, as an on-going discussion with Vic Acuna, or continuing with the traditional end of season team parties, if team parents are recruited by the Athletic Department. This fall the sports teams had an ice-cream social/celebration during lunch on Nov. 7th in the St. Gregory gym for all fall athletes.

Athletic Boosters: The Boosters are off to a strong start this fall with much fundraising success.  Laurie Kassman is looking for volunteers to help staff the snack bar for the Boyd Baker Basketball Tournament that will be held at St. Gregory’s beginning Mon., Nov. 21 through Wed., Nov. 23.  She is in need to volunteers to work 2-3 hr. shifts (2 people per shift).  Sign-ups will be on Google docs and the Eview.

Staff Appreciation: Amy Jobst reported that a “Fall Farmer’s Market” theme luncheon is planned for the entire St. Gregory staff & faculty for Wed, Nov. 16. from 11:30 – 1:30 in the El Mirador Board Rm.  Homemade Chili and fixings will be served and fall harvest goodie bags will be assembled to be given to each staff member.

Fine Arts: Andrea Mainman reported that the fall production of “M*A*S*H will be performed this weekend, Nov. 11 & 12 @ 7:00p.m.  Active military attendees will receive free admission as well as Korean War Veterans.  A video (DVD) of the production will be available for purchase Sat. evening of the performance.

The Winter Fine Arts Festival is scheduled for December 8th, from 6-8 p.m.  The theme for the evening is “Starry Night” and will showcase the St. Gregory Choir; Art & Photography classes.  Volunteers are needed to help serve hot cocoa. The spring theater performance will be “Footloose.”

Grad Night: Stan Kissinger reported that plans are ongoing for Grad Night, however the main venue has yet to be decided.  To assist with the underwriting for the evening’s events, Mark Berman has graciously offered to donate the proceeds from Benjamin Supply’s parking lot during the Fourth Avenue Street Fair.  Volunteers are needed to help staff the parking lot during the Fair.

Spirit Sale: (Julie Sligh)  Kathy Ross reported that there will be a fall apparel sale on Friday, Nov. 18 from 8 – 9 a.m. & 3 – 4 p.m.  and additionally the following Tues, Nov. 22 during the “Fall Family Gathering.”  Various apparel will be for sale, such as sweatshirts, T-shirts, shorts, bags, etc.

Class Reps: All class pot- luck parties have been completed, with the exception of the 12 graders, who will most likely do something in December. The 10th grade class is planning the Upper School Winter Formal, which will be held in January.

Parent Ambassadors:

It was reported that if you know of any possible student candidates for St. Gregory, to please pass on the information to the school office.

Board of Trustees: No report

Development: Rachel Villarreal announced a meeting for The Sip will be immediately following today’s FA meeting in the Board Rm.  Suzan Costich & Tara Krupp have agreed to be the Co-Chairs for the event.

Tax Credit letters went out for the Annual Fund.  Please encourage your friends & family to participate in the AZ Tax Credit for schools.

Heather Hiscox was introduced as the new assistant to the Development office.

Old Business:

Malika Johnson shared her appreciation for the College Fair volunteers and the wonderful gift bags that were given to all the college reps. The College Counseling office has been transformed into a beautiful lounge area for students thanks to parent, Pam Johnson.  Malika would like to add to the decor with a donation of a small artificial tree.

The next FA Meeting will be December 6 @ 8:00 a.m.
