Meeting Minutes

March 8, 2011

In attendance: Malissa Thum, Cathy Chavez, Pam Bass, Stan Kissinger, Paula Babis, Susan McGinnis, Kathy Ross, Nancy Strong, Rachel Villarreal, Susan Heintz, Kathy Stern, Amy Jobst, Netsin Steklis, Jonathan Martin.

Kathy Stern called the meeting to order @ 8:12 a.m.

The minutes from the February 8, 2011 St. Gregory FA meeting were approved.

President’s Report: Kathy Stern reported that Kathy Ross did a great job organizing “The Sip,” it was a wonderful event and all the tickets were sold out.
Kathy asked those in attendance to start thinking about what volunteer role they would like to be a part of for the next school year. Please let the current FA Board members know of your interest. Kathy has requested a job description from each committee head.

Treasurer’s Report: Nancy Strong reported that 7th & 11th grade still have all their class rep $.

Fine Arts: Pam Bass reported they will be feeding the “Beauty and the Beast” cast dinner Mon – Thurs during the week of rehearsals. The cast consists of 60 members and they are in need of donations for fruit to accompany each nightly dinner and baked goods to be sold @ the Fri & Sat. night performances, March 18th & 19th. The Sat. night performance will be videotaped. The next Spring concert will be held March 25, 2011.

Grad Night: Gabrielle Gonzales reported that the planning for Grad Night is coming along well. The next parent meeting will be held March 22 @ 8:00 a.m. in the Board Rm. @ St. Gregory’s. One of the fundraisers for the event is to work @ one of the parking lots downtown adjacent to Benjamin Supply during the 4th Ave. Street Fair. The Fair will be 4/2 – 4/3 from 10a.m. – 4p.m., and they are in need of volunteers to work 2 hr blocks of time. Gabrielle will be sending an email with sign-up sheets for volunteers. The due date for Grad Night payment was March 1st.

Class Reps: Susan McGinnis reported the individual class gift baskets for “The Sip” were a big success.
Christine Thornton stressed the importance of having a beginning of the year class party, especially in the 6th and 9th grades.
Kathy Ross suggested making recommendations for next year’s calendar.
Nancy Strong commented that she liked the parent/student class party for the 6th grade at the beginning of the school year.
Kathy Stern spoke on behalf of Susie Ward,”Thank you to all who helped with “The Sip” gift baskets.”

Athletics: (Elaine Sosnowski not present) Sports teams are going well.

Community Building: ( Nancy Goodman not present) Nancy Strong reported that the potluck @ Nancy Goodman’s house went well and there were just a few “new faces” in attendance. Kathy Stern reported that the committee is talking about doing a Spring event TBA.

Staff Appreciation: Kathy Stern reported that the next Staff Appreciation event will be March 16, 2011, and a Mexican catered luncheon will be held April 19, 2011.

Development: Kathy Ross reported “The Sip” was a big success and now they are hoping to do a Spring spirit wear sale in April. Volunteers will be needed to organize the sale.
Rachel Villarreal thanked Kathy Ross again for doing a great job on all the planning for “The Sip.” She is hoping the sense of community will continue with all fund raising efforts along with more volunteering.

Parent Ambassadors: (Cathy Rosenberg not present) Christine Thornton reported that the Open House event that was held Sunday, March 6, 2011 @ Castlehill was for 5th graders who are “on the fence” when considering attending St. Gregory’s next school year. The event was hosted by the Maltry family. They are now looking for families to help host informal activities for the purpose of recruiting to St. Gregory’s. They are also looking for more outside students to come from public schools in order to qualify for more corporate scholarships, also known as the Providence Scholarship funding.

New Business: Gabrielle Gonzales reported that the St. Gregory baseball team will have a double header on April 1, 2011 @ TEP.

The meeting was adjourned @ 8:55 a.m.

Jonathan Martin briefly discussed his decision to discontinue the Sr. awards ceremony, and replacing the event with a much smaller set of awards, sometime close to graduation. He also reported that after much consternation, the foreign language program would remain unchanged for the time being.
