Family Association
Meeting Minutes
January 11, 2011
In attendance: Nancy Strong, Cathy Rosenberg, Kathy Ross, Amy Jobst, Fritzi Griffis,Valerie Warner, Marika Roberson, Susan McGinnis, Shelly Silverman, Gabrielle Gonzales, Stan Kissinger, Saundra Maltry, Maria Grainger, Netzin Steklis, Jonathan Martin, Rachel Villarreal.
Kathy Ross called the meeting to order @ 8:10 a.m.
The minutes were approved from the December 7, 2010 St. Gregory FA meeting.
Treasurerʼs report: (Nancy Strong) no report
Fine Arts: (Pam Bass) Kathy Ross reported the production “ Beauty and the Beast ”
will be performed March 18-19, 2011. There will also be a production this month ( Jan. 28-29 ) titled “I Hate Shakespere.”
Grad Night: (Gabrielle Gonzales) reported that plans for Grad Night are coming along and they are still trying to keep the plans quiet. There will be another parent meeting later this month, (no date). Also, there are still a few blankets that still need to be sold.
Class Reps: (Susan McGinnis) The Upper School Winter Formal will be Sunday, Jan.
16, 2011. All Class Reps have agreed to do gift baskets for The Sip.
6th grade: Theme: still not sure
7th grade: Theme: ?
8th grade: Theme: Spa Day
9th grade: Theme: Entertainment
10th grade: Theme: ?
11th grade: Theme “Simply Unique”
12 grade: Theme: “Kitchen”
The deadline to submit items for the baskets will be Feb. 15.
Development: (Kathy Ross) reported that The Sip will be held March 5 @ Skyline
Country Club and the theme will be celebrating the schoolʼs 30 yr. anniversary. Wine tasting will be from 6 – 8 p.m., with dinner to be served just after 8 p.m. The wine distributors will be donating all the wine. There will be live music, tickets will be $150 pp and $30 for alumni. Tickets are available online @ the St. Gregory website. Invitations will be mailed this week. (Rachel Villarreal ) Donations for the Silent Auction need to be given to Rachel Villarreal. They are hoping to have a live auctioneer for the event. More underwriting is still needed and 300 tickets are available. Those who would like to host a table for 10, please contact Rachel Villarreal.
Rachel Villarreal reported that the AZ Tax Credit effort went well and those wishing to designate their Tax Credit to a private school now have an extention until April 15. The goal for St. Gregoryʼs is to have $400,00 in individual tax credits. They are still working hard on promoting the Annual Fund gift giving, however the focus is really on The Sip and funding for the event.

Merchandise sale: (Kathy Ross) reported that the St. Gregory merchandise sale was a huge success with over 70 families placing merchandise orders with sales totaling over $5000 for a total profit of $1300. There will be new apparel for the Spring and she is still looking for a volunteer to be the head of this effort.
Athletics: No report
Community Building: (Nancy Goodman) Kathy Ross reported there will be a
luncheon Jan. 25 @ Firebirds at 12:00. All St. Gregory families are invited.
Staff Appreciation: No report
Parent Ambassadors: ( Cathy Rosenberg ) There was admissions testing for
prospective students last Sat, (Jan 8th). An Open House is scheduled for both the US and MS for Sun, Jan 23. Adult Education classes will be starting tomorrow night, (Jan 12) from 6:30 – 8:30p.m. with French and Watercoloring being offered. The classes are open to the entire community and the classes will run for 12 weeks at a cost of $200. They are hoping to try some new classes in the Fall to help generate more interest from the community. The Admissions Dept. is trying to set up “ feeder” schools, such as St. Michaels or Tucson Hebrew Academy, to learn more about St. Gregs. Anyone who would like to host a coffee in their home for a designated school, please contact Cathy Rosenberg. The mentoring program for new families will continue next Fall as a way to help the new families feel welcome @ St. Gregoryʼs.
Board of Trustees: (Shelly Silverman) reported that the focus is still on the Annual
Fund and the Board is seeking new trustees for next year..
Headmasterʼs Report: Jonathan Martin discussed the possibility of making changes to the Foreign Languages offerings @ St. Gregoryʼs . The changes would be based on ideas he acquired while visiting another private school in Santa Fe, NM that is very similiar to the curriculum @ St. Gregs. No changes will be made until parents have a chance to participate in a survey, which will be mailed to parents requesting their input.

The next FA meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 @ 8 a.m.
